Boat Wakeboarding & Wakesurfing in Thailand: Every Spot Beyond Cable Parks

Boat Wakeboarding & Wakesurfing in Thailand: Every Spot Beyond Cable Parks

Cable parks are not the only way to ride in Thailand. Here is every boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing operation across Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, and Kanchanaburi.

Thailand's 14 cable wake parks get most of the attention, but there is a thriving boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing scene across the country. If you want to ride behind a boat instead of on a cable, here is where to go.

What is the Difference?

Cable wakeboarding pulls you around a fixed track on a lake using an overhead cable system. Boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing use a dedicated wake boat to tow you across open water. Wakesurfing specifically means dropping the rope and riding the boat's wake, similar to ocean surfing.

Cable is more accessible (cheaper, no boat required, equipment included), but boat riding offers a different experience: open water, the ability to ride anywhere, and the unique feel of surfing a boat wake.

Bangkok

Pina Wakesurf Club operates on a private lake near Mega Bangna. They specialise in wakesurfing with dedicated wake boats. Popular with Bangkok's expat community. Phone: 063 546 6059.

TE Wake N Ski runs private lake sessions with multiple boats. They offer both wakeboarding and wakesurfing packages. Website: tewake-ski.com.

Wake N' Wake operates sessions in the Bangkok-Ayutthaya area with professional wake boats. They also have a Kanchanaburi location. Website: wakenwake.com.

Phuket

Phuket has the biggest boat wakesurfing scene in Thailand. The calm waters around the island's east coast marinas are ideal for wakesurfing.

WakePlayer claims to be the first to bring wakesurfing to Thailand. They use an Axis T235 wake boat and operate from Royal Phuket Marina. TripAdvisor rating: 5/5.

Wakesurf Bros (Blue Angel Marine) run premium sessions with Centurion and Nautique G23 boats from Boat Lagoon. One of the highest-rated water sports operators in Phuket.

Wild Wake operates a Moomba Mojo 25ft boat from Ao Po Grand Marina on Phuket's east coast.

SeaTime Wakesurf runs sessions from Royal Phuket Marina. Instagram: @seatime_wakesurf.

Siam Wake Club in Mai Khao operates daily from 13:00 to 18:00. Google: 4.9/5. Phone: 088 620 8036.

Koh Samui

Khalifa Samui at Chaweng Beach offers sessions from 2,000 THB for 15 minutes. Google: 4.8/5 (268 reviews). Website: khalifasamui.com.

Koh Samui Watersports at Lamai Beach offers sessions from 1,000 to 3,000 THB. Google: 4.2/5 (68 reviews). Website: kohsamuiwatersports.com.

Koh Phangan

Wake Up! Wakeboarding has been operating in Chaloklum Bay for over 14 years. They are the most established boat wakeboarding operation on any Thai island. Google: 4.9/5 (176 reviews), TripAdvisor: 5/5 (139 reviews). Phone: 087 283 6755. Website: wakeupwakeboarding.com.

Accrokite Koh Phangan offers wakeboarding alongside their kitesurfing operation, using MB boats. Website: accrokite-kohphangan.com.

Note: Wake Park Phangan (the cable park) is permanently closed. Boat wakeboarding with Wake Up! is the only way to ride on the island now.

Koh Tao

Kanchanaburi

Wake N' Wake Kanchanaburi is about 3 hours from Bangkok, offering boat wakeboarding and wakesurfing on reservoirs surrounded by mountains. A completely different vibe from Bangkok's urban cable parks. Website: wakenwake.com/kanchanaburi.

7SEAS Wakesurf operates in Amphoe Si Sawat, deeper into Kanchanaburi province.

Rayong

Dok Krai Wake N Surf runs sessions on Dok Krai Reservoir using a Nautique 230 boat. The reservoir is 15km long, giving you genuine open-water riding about 2 hours from Bangkok. They also run training camps.

Cable vs Boat: Which Should You Choose?

For first-timers: Start at a cable park. The cable pulls at a consistent speed, equipment is included, and sessions are much cheaper (400 to 1,600 THB for hours of riding vs 1,500 to 3,000 THB for 15 to 30 minutes behind a boat).

For experienced riders: Try both. Cable parks are unbeatable for progression and obstacle riding. Boat wakesurfing is a completely different experience - more relaxed, more social, and the feeling of surfing a wake without a rope is addictive.

For island visitors: Boat wakeboarding is your only option on Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. There are no cable parks on the islands.
